Build

Build the company before the money shows up

A band, a studio and a channel all become businesses the first time someone pays. We set up the entity and the paper between collaborators so that day is uneventful.

The setup is a fixed package. It covers the company filing, an operating agreement that says who owns what and who decides, and templates for the people you will pay.

  • LLC chosen for how you earn

  • Operating agreement with split terms

  • Collaborator, producer and editor agreements

The paper that keeps collaborators friends

The disputes we see most are not about talent. They are about who agreed to what, and where it was written down.

  • Band and partnership agreements

Who owns the songs, the name and the gear, how decisions get made and what happens when someone leaves.

  • Work-for-hire and contractor terms

Editors, session players, designers and producers get paid on terms that also say who owns the result.

  • Split sheets and collaboration terms

A one-page record of each person’s share of a song, a film or a series, signed while everyone still agrees.

How it goes

From call to a company that is ready

Four steps, each with a date we give you at the start.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Setup call

We ask who is involved, how money will come in and what you plan to make.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Draft

You get the formation filing and the operating agreement to read, with a note on each choice.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Signing

Everyone signs, and we file. We tell you what to do with the state and the tax office.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Handover

You keep a folder with the filing, the agreements and a one-page summary of who owns what.

Questions about setting up

Do we need an LLC?

Not always. If you earn little and work alone, a written agreement may be enough for now. We say so if that is the case.

Does the setup fee include the state’s fee?

No. The state charges its own formation fee and may charge a yearly one. We tell you the amount before we file.

Can one agreement cover the whole band?

Yes. The operating agreement can name every member, set their shares and say how new members join.
